Journey Home
Making the untold personal stories of mass migration in China matter. The World bank estimates that in 2030, 70% of China’s population will live in urban centers—roughly one billion people. But only decades ago, the citizens of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) mostly lived in rural, mainly agricultural communities. Today, up 287 million workers migrate from their rural homes to cities in the pursuit of better opportunities in both jobs, and education. Many of these migrants only ever return home during the Great Internal Migration of Chinese New Year.
